The Secretary for State has his head up his arse

The Department of Health has announced they will:

• set a maximum hourly rate for agency doctors and nurses

• ban the use by NHS Trusts of agencies that are not approved (off-framework)

• put a defined cap on total agency staff spending for each NHS trust in financial difficulty.

Rate is dictated by demand and the role’s merits.  Ergo screw up your staff management so badly you need a doctor at an hour’s notice and you have to pay a premium for that doctor/agent solving that issue.

If the framework worked, then you would not need to go list.  PSL and frameworks work in theory, not in practice.

All trusts are in financial difficulty of one form or another, so patient care is to be thrown under the bus because the NHS is badly managed financially.
