Recruitment website essentials for recruitment agencies

Recruitment website essentials for recruitment agencies

What is a recruitment agency website?

A recruitment agency website is an agency’s online home for advertising vacancies, receiving applications and attracting hiring clients. This guide is for recruitment agency owners and teams planning their agency’s website.

RecruiterWEB supplies websites exclusively to recruitment agencies, not employers’ in-house recruitment teams. The candidate and hiring-client journeys discussed here are the audiences your agency’s website needs to serve.

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) describes recruitment consultants as attracting candidates on behalf of clients and matching them with temporary, contract or permanent work. An agency website needs to support both sides of that relationship.

Your agency’s site should explain its specialisms, sectors served and recruitment services. Candidates need a route to suitable work; prospective hiring clients need to understand your agency’s expertise and how to ask for help.

That distinction matters when planning navigation and content. A candidate might arrive directly on a vacancy from a search engine. A prospective hiring client might arrive on a sector page and want evidence that your agency understands their hiring needs.

Consultant profiles, relevant testimonials and case studies give prospective hiring clients something concrete to assess. A clear hiring-enquiry or vacancy-submission route then lets them act without working through candidate registration screens.

Useful vacancies and straightforward applications

Recruitment-site vacancies should help candidates assess a role and apply without unnecessary steps. Search filters help people find relevant opportunities; the vacancy itself needs enough detail to support a decision.

For example, someone seeking temporary warehouse work needs to distinguish suitable local roles from permanent jobs outside their travel range. Sector, location, job-type and postcode-radius filters support that search.

Acas recommends giving applicants the job description, person specification, application form and information about the organisation. A title and an application button leave candidates without the detail needed to judge suitability.

RecruiterWEB supports several routes for candidates:

  • Apply for a vacancy without creating an account.

  • Submit a CV to the agency or an individual recruiter.

  • Sign up for job alerts.

These routes address different needs. Someone ready to apply should be able to proceed, while someone without a suitable vacancy can still register their interest.

Candidate attraction also includes Google for Jobs connectivity and useful candidate-focused content. Recruitment SEO should help relevant people discover opportunities, with clear vacancy information waiting when they arrive.

The website still belongs within a wider attraction plan. Acas recommends considering at least two advertising places or methods because online-only advertising can reach groups unevenly.

Mobile access and accessible applications

A recruitment site should let candidates search, read vacancies and complete applications across devices. Mobile usability needs attention throughout the journey, including any application form hosted elsewhere.

Ofcom’s Online Nation 2025 report found that smartphones accounted for 77% of time spent online by UK online adults in May 2025. That measures general internet use, rather than candidate applications, but gives UK agencies a clear reason to prioritise mobile access.

RecruiterWEB supports desktop, tablet and mobile use, including a dedicated mobile design option.

A form fitting on a phone screen does not establish accessibility. The World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 cover keyboard operation, field labels or instructions, and text descriptions of detected errors.

WCAG’s whole-process requirement is especially relevant to recruitment: an accessible vacancy page alone cannot establish accessibility for the application process. If the apply button sends candidates to another service, those subsequent steps matter too.

Assess the journey through to submission, including how candidates understand and correct an error, rather than reviewing only the vacancy page.

Candidate data protection essentials

Protecting candidate data means controlling what an agency collects, explaining its use and safeguarding information throughout its handling. A privacy notice addresses transparency; practical controls must support it.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) sets out the privacy information organisations must provide when collecting personal data. Candidates need to know the organisation’s identity, processing purposes and lawful basis, alongside retention information, individual rights and complaint routes. Recipients and international transfers must also be explained where applicable.

Make that information available where candidates submit applications or CVs. Consent is one possible lawful basis, so avoid assuming every recruitment activity requires a consent checkbox.

Keep initial forms focused. Under the ICO’s data-minimisation principle, information must be relevant and limited to what is necessary. Ask whether each field is needed at that recruitment stage.

Retention also needs a reason. The ICO’s storage-limitation guidance confirms that UK GDPR sets no universal retention period for CVs or applications. Establish purpose-based periods or criteria, then review and delete information that is no longer needed.

Finally, ICO security guidance requires technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risks. Consider access controls, encryption, backups and staff practices across every system handling candidate information, not just the website form.

ATS connections and application routing

An applicant tracking system (ATS) connection links the public recruitment site with the system recruiters use to manage jobs and candidates. A customer relationship management (CRM) system may also form part of that setup.

The website presents opportunities and receives candidate or client enquiries. The connected recruitment system supports the operational work behind those interactions.

Supported RecruiterWEB connections can bring vacancies onto the website and return applications to the recruitment system. Depending on the connected setup, applications can go to a recruiter, an ATS or a supported job-posting platform.

A named integration does not establish that every field or workflow synchronises in both directions. The useful questions are specific: where do vacancies originate, where do applications arrive, and which information moves between systems?

Agree those routes before assessing the connection against your agency’s working practices.

Bespoke and template design options

RecruiterWEB’s bespoke and template designs deliver recruitment capabilities through different design approaches on the same recruitment website platform. The design plan determines the level of design, rather than the underlying platform functionality, features or support levels.

Bespoke recruitment website design starts with layouts created for the individual agency. The agency’s identity and recruitment services shape the page structure and visual presentation.

Template recruitment website design starts with recruitment-specific layouts that can be adapted through colours, typography, imagery and page structure. The starting layout gives the design a foundation while allowing the agency’s brand to shape the result.

AM2PM provides a concrete example: its commercial and industrial recruitment website uses a template design with Broadbean integration. Template-based presentation and recruitment-system connectivity can coexist.

Separate the visual decision from the operational requirements. Establish the job-search, application and supported connection needs first, then choose how to present them. An agency’s preference for an individual page layout is a design consideration; where an application must arrive is an operational requirement. Both need an answer, but they are different decisions.

Discuss your agency’s recruitment website requirements

Bring RecruiterWEB one typical vacancy your agency recruits for, the application route candidates should follow and the recruitment systems your team uses. Include the action you want a prospective hiring client to take, such as submitting a vacancy or contacting a specialist consultant.

Discuss your agency’s website requirements with us to identify the capabilities you need and a suitable bespoke or template design approach.
