So many people use their website as just an online brochure – the art of using it for exact match candidates for your current jobs, or to generate candidates you can market to your clients, is somewhat of a lost or misunderstood art. So how is it done?
OK, step one is to make sure you have the right recruitment website software. I know, I know. I make recruitment websites, so I would say that – right? Wrong. The simple fact is that many sites exist that have been made so that search engines cannot find your jobs. So if the search engine can’t find your jobs, how is a job seeker going to be able to?
The next step is to ensure that your job pages are set up how search engines want and understand them. For a basic checklist, using a construction recruitment job based in Newcastle as an example, I would want to see the job content set up as follows.
Job Title: To contain the location and then used as the page title, for example, “Construction Recruitment job in Newcastle”. I would also want to see this as part of the URL of the page. Then I would want to see the summary of the job or the first line of the job used as the metadata/description for the search engine, and it should be written as a call to action. Example: “This is a great job for a construction recruiter based in Newcastle”.
Keywords relating to construction, recruitment, jobs, etc. should then be eloquently distributed throughout the page. Being careful not to write keywords for keywords’ sake. Other areas you can tweak would be any images/video you have on the page, links to other parts of your website for construction recruitment jobs, etc.
Lastly, use this format for your website and a different format for your job board posts – why? Because otherwise, you are making competition for yourself with either the job board advert, the job board advert and a job aggregation service like Indeed, or just the job aggregation service – who will use your page to boost their own site or better index their own pages.
So why do it this way?
Well, the UK has one of the most web-savvy user communities on the planet, and the searches run each month in Google UK alone run into the hundreds and hundreds of millions. But job searches like “jobs for recruiters” bring in quite random results, which services like job boards want to widen their portfolio. Trouble is they don’t focus very much on setting up their sites for the savvy job seeker who knows they want to work as a construction recruiter in Newcastle and only Newcastle.

Even if you put the exact terms you are looking for like “construction recruitment jobs in Newcastle” into Google, you get no jobs that match this search. This opens the door to those who take the time to “exact match their own job content” for search engines, and if you are a rec to rec reading, this tells you the job boards/job aggregators are not looking out for you.
Please note I am Dyslexic, and in my form, I am blind to grammar, and sometimes I get my fors and fours, etc. backwards. I am not stupid – in fact, my IQ and EQ (see, I meant EI) are both quite high. Please keep that in mind when you read my work.
